1. What is gut health?

Gut health refers to how well your digestive system functions and how the microorganisms living in your gut interact with your body. It can be influenced by factors such as diet, lifestyle, medications, sleep and overall health.

The gut microbiome is the community of bacteria and other microorganisms that live throughout your digestive tract. These microorganisms can play important roles in digestion, metabolism and interactions with the immune system.

Microbiome testing analyses a sample to provide information about the microorganisms detected in your gut. Results can offer insights into your microbiome, but they should be interpreted alongside your symptoms, health history and other relevant information.

Depending on the test, you may provide a sample at home and send it to a laboratory for analysis. You’ll then receive your results along with information explaining what the test measures and what the findings may mean.

Not necessarily. Gut health and microbiome tests have different purposes and limitations, and many are not designed to diagnose or rule out medical conditions. If you have persistent or concerning symptoms, speak with a qualified healthcare professional.
